I was about halfway through last night's. Lifetime movie, lila and Eve when I started to jennifer wonder what my review was going to be about. The movie, which starred.
Viola Davis and, jennifer Lopez, didn't really offer much to joke about at first, besides the laughable dubbing of curse words (motherers silly suckers). But I also wasn't so blown away by it that I was prepared to write about how good it was. Just when I thought I was strapped for material, something ridiculous happened, and from then on out the movie, which was produced by Lifetime Films (executive produced by Davis) and premiered at Sundance last year, devolved into a preposterous mess.
Things start out relatively good, with Viola Davis playing Lila, the mother of a teenage boy who was murdered in a drive-by shooting. Viola Davis is, well, Viola Davis, so of course she's good.
Lila meets a woman named Eve (J.Lo) at a support group, and they start hanging out and confiding in each other. Well, mostly it's just Lila confiding in Eve, since Eve doesn't talk much about her murdered daughter. Long story short, the two women end up seeking revenge on the man who killed Lila's son.
They end up killing ten or so people in the process. Bad people, but still.
I really should have seen casper the twist coming, because, looking back, it was glaringly obvious. I did suspect that something was up with Eve, but I just had more faith in this movie than to expect it to do what it ended up doing. What it ended up doing was to reveal, to the audience and Lila, that Eve doesn't exist.
That's right she's Tyler Durden. Lila has committed all the murders and done all the investigating by herself, all while talking to an imaginary.Lo lookalike.
Can we just retire this that character doesn'T exist trope along with IT WAS alream? But wait, there's more!
Just when you think the movie couldn't possibly get any dumber, it does. Lila rigs her house to blow up while her son's killer is inside waiting for her. Just before it explodes, she tells Eve she knows how to get rid of her and opens the door.
